The Port Fairy Little Athletics field is located at the Port Fairy Showgrounds (121 Hamilton-Port Fairy Road).
Port Fairy Little Athletics will meet weekly on Fridays at 4:30pm during the summer season.
The summer athletics track and field season generally runs from September to March each year (usually during school terms). Each centre may have different start and end dates, so please check with your local centre. For 2024/2025, Port Fairy's season will commence on 11th October 2024 and conclude on 21st February 2025.
Children need to be 5 years of age or older, or 16 years of age or younger, at the end of the calendar year in which the summer season commences. If you are unsure, please ask us and we will be glad to help.
Age Groups are based on calendar years, so athletes born in the same year will compete against each other. You can find out your child's age group upon registration, by asking us, or by using the age calculator on the Little Athletics Victoria website: https://lavic.com.au/membership/new-member/age-calculator/
Children will compete in as many of the Little Athletics Victoria Centre Level Standard Events as our centre can provide. This may include running, long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, javelin, high jump, hurdles. Depending on their age groups, athletes will compete with varying distances, weights and heights. The younger age groups will also be involved in the 'On Track' program.
'On Track' is a skills based program for the younger age groups (Under 6, 7 and 8). It teaches the athletes the skills of each event in a sequential manner. Fundamental skills are taught and athletes have maximum participation and activity time with increased practice. 'On Track' can be combined with a modified competition program for these age groups.
Children will generally compete in 4 different events each week, with a combination of running, jumping and throwing. A program will be provided at the start of the season. Allow up to 2.5 hours for the children to get through these events (some nights may be quicker than others, lots of factors come in to play so we can't provide an official end time).
Yes! Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, we've been able to provide all our new fully registered members with an official Port Fairy Little Athletics t-shirt! This t-shirt can be worn each week on competition night, and is also the official uniform our athletes will compete in at regional and state carnivals. Children should come dressed in appropriate clothes that are suitable for running, jumping and throwing. Footwear must be worn in all events.
Your child will be provided with an Association Registration Patch by our centre following registration, which must be worn on the front of their shirt each week. They should also bring a hat, drink bottle, and wear sunscreen.
Little Athletics is a volunteer dependent sport, it takes a lot of hands to help run each event. We ask that parents volunteer to help out each week to make sure we can continue to run the program for the children. After all, it's all about family, fun and fitness!
